Originally established as the Gloucester Redskins by John Jones and Brian Casabon in 1995.  Following the elimination of the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1996, the team adapted the name and colour scheme of the former club starting the following year.

The Jr Riders were participants in every QMJFL (as it was known at the time) championship game between 1997 and 2001 (inclusive) until they departed for the Ontario Football Conference for the 2002 season.  They struggled in the OFC, winning five games over four seasons.

The team returned to the QJFL for the 2006 season and won the Manson in its first year back in the league.  They celebrated their third straight championship at the end of the 2008 season.
