Extension sought for Lansdowne plan
I’m going to copy another article from the Sun, but not for the obvious reason. Yes, the city is going to recommend extending the negotiation period with the Lansdowne Live group by 30-days, but the part that tickled me was the bit involving that Brocklebank guy from the GCA. Here we go: City staff and [...]
Kosmos would ‘love’ to be part of CFL team
Way to go, Don Brennan. You’ve finally taken some time away from talking to Lonie Glieberman to direct to interviewing someone both worthy of the attention and in whose opinion people are actually interested. Thirty-three years after Ottawa’s last CFL championship, Kosmos would like nothing more than to help give his adopted hometown another winning [...]
Ineligible player could cost Knights playoffs
Here’s a portion of Neate Sager’s Sun article about the possibility that St. Peter’s junior high school team could have its season botched by having an ineligible player on the field. The irony of the National Capital Secondary Schools Athletic Association moving junior football to spring is that while it’s against the rules to play [...]
Cumberland 13, Myers 11
From what I was able to find last year, it seemed that the Orleans papers offered the best coverage of its local teams. I’m a little surprised then that I have not been able to find a recap of Cumberland’s win against Myers Riders this past weekend. So for those that couldn’t make it, without [...]
The Scott effect continues
I didn’t want anyone to miss this comment by Pat. Since it’s included on an older post about the demise of the Deacon Demons, it would have been easy to do so. It should come as no great surprise to anyone that Joliette will not be fielding a semi-pro team this year. According to a [...]
All-Regional High School All-Star Team
Martin Cleary posted the High School all-star team earlier this week and here they are. Either there were no kickers named, or Mr Cleary missed including them. QB: Caleb Karam (St. Patrick’s) OL: Alex Mateas (Merivale), Jeff Veinotte (St Peter), Raphael Alfonzo (St Mark), Jordan McMillan (Almonte), Adam Ladouceur (Thousand Islands) WR: Tristan Bailey (St. [...]
Let’s get it on!
Hitting that counts begins today. The Cumberland Panthers host Myers Riders at all three levels of the OVFL at Millenium Field. The highest age group (and therefore the one I’m personally most interested in) plays at 2:45PM, but the peewee team is scheduled for noon, and the Jr Varsity team will play last, at 5:30PM. [...]
Locals heading east, part two
Crap. If I had waited just a few more days before posting about the local players going to Acadia and St. Mary’s, I could have also included St. Francis Xavier. Figures. The X-Men don’t usually have much Ottawa content of late though, and I seldom hear recruiting news from them, so rather than wait for something [...]
Locals headings east in CIS
Acadia University recently released its list of 2009 recruits, and included therein were two local players. OL – James Lindsay 6’6”, 290 – Nepean, ON Nepean HS/Ottawa Myers’ Riders – OVFL Considered a run blocking guard, James’ strength and speed will be a great addition to the Axemen’s run game this season. DT – James [...]
Spring time eye-catchers
Though I get to the point where I can’t wait for the on-field action to start, in a number of ways I am as big a fan of the off-season as I am of the regular season. As “draft season” demonstrates, anticipating the future is as big a part of being a fan as cheering [...]
