Opening Kickoff!

July 1st, 2009: http://twitter.com/capfootball

I sometimes joke that everything I know about marketing, I learned from pro wrestling.

It sounds silly but there’s some truth to it.  The concept of pro wrestling is entirely ridiculous but they promote themselves all out, in a flashy manner, and manage to get a large amount of people to follow a sort-of sporting event with a pre-determined outcome religiously.

I love the mentality that no amount or type of promotion is too small.  I try to apply that "no stone unturned" approach to CRF in relation to finding and gathering information.  Though someting like Twitter is not normally my sort of thing, I'll be making use of it for that specific purpose.

I am currently following the CFL, CIS, OUA, the Canada cup, the Ontario Football Alliance and fellow bloggers Out of Left Field and DeuxFans.  Additionally, I plan to follow local players, teams and leagues (when possible) in order to have access to other sources of news.

So if you are a local player or involved with a local team, don’t be surprised if you are suddenly followed by “capfootball”. :)

Photo Album Updates
(Click image at right or the "added" date to reach the "last uploads" section of the album)

June 27th:  Keeping with an earlier theme of how interest in one level of play sparks interest in others, my increased exposure to local high school football last season caused me to become curious about the Lanark-Renfrew league.  In particular, the Almonte Thunderbolts are intriguing because they seem to have dominated that league consistently, or at least in the second half it its existence.

As a result, I will collect news article (when I come across one,
since Ottawa papers don't cover that league very thoroughly) about it so that I can better record its history.  The first of these is here and it recaps the 2001 final between Almonte and Arnprior.

Also included this time around are a Gee-Gees/Ravens double bill (one article recapping both games), a Sooners 1978 playoff victory in which they overcome a game one deficit to win a two-game series agaisnt the Verdun Maple Leafs, and Irv Daymond's card from a recently-obtained 1993 Jogo Rough Riders set.  Daymond was a favourite of mine during those days, and that specific card is my personal favourite in a very good set.  Clicking on the preview at right will take you to the "last uploads" page.
